Many of the children we get into school live in families that are so impoverished that just finding food for their children is a daily challenge. Our experience has shown that this is the main reason children end up on the streets in the first place. They spend their days begging and searching for ways to provide something to put in their stomach. Unfortunately, the schools in Rwanda do not provide lunch for the kids either. So, these children either fend for themselves or they go hungry. That is the reason we have arranged lunches to be provided either at school or near the school for almost all of the sponsored children in our programs. It costs us $20 per month per child which is beyond what the $35 per month child sponsorship funds. Some child sponsors have chosen to add that $20 per month to their sponsorship giving, but the school lunch program is still costing us far more than we have the funds to sustain. If you agree that children need at least one good meal a day in order for them to learn and grow, perhaps you could consider supporting the school lunch program? Right now we are looking for 30 more school lunch sponsors to each pledge $20 per month. Might you be one of these much needed sponsors?
