Ready to Go

Friday, October 31st, 2008

A miracle has happened! Mike (and friends) were actually able to fit *everything* into the shipping container! If you saw all the stuff he had to put in there (including a tractor, attachments, an ATV, rolls of water piping, and soooo much more!) you would not believe it. When I saw all the stuff I said, “This is going to have to be like Jesus with the loaves & fishes, except in reverse- he is going to have make everything shrink!” Well, God did it! Praise God!

The container is locked & ready to go- which is great because Mike leaves for Africa tomorrow morning! He is traveling with one team member, John from Woodland. They will spend their frist week in Ethiopia- working with All God’s Children International on an “extreme makeover” project for a daycare there (along with our church’s assistant pastor & his wife and other AGCI team members). Then Mike & John will continue on to Rwanda and be there until December 2nd. Mike’s main goal is to get TTI’s paperwork finished so we are registered as an NGO (non-governmental organization, same as being registered as a charity). We need this completed before the container gets there (the container will leave soon & should take about 77 days to get there).

We have three more team members joining them Nov. 21st- Darcee, Jill, Karen. They will be there til December 15th. The team’s main project is going to be working along with Ngoga to create profiles of the street children who attend the feeding program. They will find out more about them, including if they have living relatives, a possible home, where they stay, etc. We are needing this so that once the Home of Innocence is complete we will be able to identify which children are ready to be helped.

Mike will return to Rwanda January 5th so he can be there before the container arrives & get things ready. Our family, along with two other team members- Chris & Jerid will join him January 25th. The team members will stay for two weeks, but our family will be staying for 3 months.

Please pray for the container- for it to arrive on time, with no delays, no extra fees imposed, and for all the items inside to arrive safely (after traveling over the ocean!). Please also be in prayer for Mike & John as they prepare to leave early Saturday morning. Pray for safe travels, for their luggage & supplies to all arrive when they do, and for health. Pray that they will be able to get a lot accomplished on this daycare in Ethiopia. Please also pray for this NGO paperwork to be completed & for God to bless their time in Rwanda.

If you are wanting to help one of the team members go, please visit our “giving” page. Going in January is a possiblity for you too- you can find an application on our website! We are still half way to our goal for the amount needed for the Home of Innocence/Acres of Hope phase I. The construction will begin in January and we continue to pray for God to provide all that’s needed for completion, including leading us to the street children He wants us to help. Thank you for your partnership in reaching out to “the least of these”. We thank God for you!

In Christ,
Lisa

P.S. Pray for me as I am a single mom for the month of November! And most of January! We will miss Mike very much!

Current Events

Simon Peter Ngoga will be speaking at Grace Community Church in Woodland, WA this Sunday, October 19th. His flight to return to Rwanda is on Monday, October 20th. We praise God for the good time he has had here. Last Sunday Mike & Simon were at Shoestring Valley Church & had a great response from the congregation there. We praise God for taking care of Simon during his time here, as well as his family that had to stay behind in Rwanda. He misses them very much & is very excited to be returning to them! Before he leaves he will have a few more “essential” northwest experiences- a friend will take him up to Mt. Hood (maybe even see snow?) and he will also get to make a trip to the Oregon coast (touch an ocean for the first time!) Thank you for your continued prayers for God to bless & provide for Simon & his family.

We have made some changes to our expected schedule. We have decided to delay shipping the container until November, so it will arrive in Rwanda after the holidays. Mike will be in Rwanda for the month of November, working on getting everything straight for our required paperwork for being a non-profit organization, etc. We have a small team going to Rwanda Nov. 21st to Dec. 15th. Their goal will be working with Simon to interview & document children from the feeding program, identifying those who would be ready to benefit from being in the Home of Innocence.

Mike will return to Rwanda in January. Myself & the kids, as well as a few others, will join him Jan. 24th. This is another opportunity for you to participate- if you would like to come, or if you feel like you should help someone else go, please visit our website for more information.

Additional prayer requests would be for this paperwork in Rwanda (for TTI to be registered) to be completed & for God to provide the rest of the funds needed for phase 1 of the Acres of Hope. God has given us a calling & vision, and we know he will be faithful to provide! Please remember to pray for the children who are on the streets right now- that God would sustain them until a suitable place is ready for them. And wisdom for us to identify those whom God is calling out- those whom God has already planned to be in the Home of Innocence. We know He has a plan & we submit to His will! Thank you for laboring alongside us!

God Bless You!

Banquet

Friday, October 3rd, 2008
On Saturday, the 27th of September, around 160 people gathered at the Vancouver Hilton for Ten Talents International’s “Night of Hope”. Besides a wonderful dinner, we enjoyed video presentations showing the progress of several former street children, we heard from Simon Peter Ngoga as well as Mike McColm, and enjoyed special music from Christina Mulkey. We thank everyone who participated last night. Our special matching donation from Heritage Church was in place that night. We are still working on getting an exact number, but in both gifts and pledges of support we raised over $20,000. With the matching donation from Heritage that brings the amount raised to over $40,000. Add that to the $50,000 that we have already received from Heritage and we are more than half way to the $180,000 needed for the first phase of the Acres of Hope, including the Home of Innocence. We praise God for all he did that night & how he is continuing to work to bring in the support needed for this work that he is doing.

Mike has been diligently working to get all of our supplies into the shipping container. It is full & keeps getting fuller! I think this is going to be a miracle to fit everything in there!

This next week Mike & Simon will be a part of a missions event at Northwest University in Kirkland. It would be great to connect those students to the opportunities with TTI. Sunday the 12th we will be at a church in Morton, Washington. Sunday October 19th we will be at Grace Community Church in Woodland, Wa. Then Monday, October 20th Simon leaves for Rwanda. Your continued prayers for Simon would be appreciated. It is not an easy thing to have to retell over & over & revisit a very sad & painful part of your life & your country’s history. Please pray for him to be strengthened & that what he is able to share would be a blessing to those who hear it.

Thank you for your prayers for the ministry and for God to continue to supply all of our needs both as a family and for TTI. Pray for God to continue to give us clear guidance and wisdom as we consider when we should be making our next trip to Rwanda, whether the whole family should go & for how long, etc. We look to God & depend on him in all things. He is good & brings us good things!

God Bless You,

Lisa
